Manchester United 2 – 1 Liverpool

Manchester United:

The leading top scorer of the premier league increased his tally with the opening goal and gave lead to Manchester United in the first half. And his superb cross in the second half gave Manchester United two goals lead over Liverpool.Manchester United enjoyed a comfortable domination over Liverpool in the first half. With Rafael and Evra controlling both the sides, Liverpool seemed to play most of the first half in their own side.A low cross form Evra is enough for Van persie to slot it past Reina. United’s unsung hero Carrick was the one dominating the midfield in the first half.Young ‘s partnership with Rafael was brilliant while attacking. The second half started well for United .Valencia came on for Young who was injured in the first half on clashing with Agger. Van persie  gave a sublime cross and   Evra headed it and it took a flick off Vidic and found the net.Till then, Manchester United were dominating. When Liverpool pulled one back, Manchester United defended well to stop them from finding an equaliser. De gea was not tested at all except Gerrard’s shot. Cleverley pairing with Carrick paid off again as both had a good game. Jones came on for Kagawa who didn’t play up to his expectations. Ferdinand and Vidic looked solid in the defense. On having clash with Wisdom, Smalling came on for Vidic later.Rafael had a great game and proved that he is one of the best right backs in premier league. Welbeck missed few chances in the first half , but he had a great game and was playing like a beast till full time. Gary Neville voted Welbeck as his MOTM.

Liverpool:

Apart from rivalry and many controversies between the two sides, this match was expected to be the clash of the two best strikes in the premier league. The one of the best dribblers in the premier league didn’t live up to the expectations in this match.Liverpool seemed very shaky in the first half. Poor defending in the first half costed them the first goal. They lacked pace to trouble United’s defense. Allen and Lucas were not playing up to the mark.Sterling was ineffectual. When Manchester United took two goals lead,it seemed to be a huge task for Liverpool but their second half play proved it wrong. Brendan Rodgers was right to take Lucas off the pitch as he already got a yellow card and was lucky not to get the second yellow.Daniel Sturridge gave an immediate impact who came on for Lucas. Gerrard hit a very good shot which was punched away  by De Gea and Sturridge  netted the rebound. Borini came on Sterling and Liverpool started dominating. Later,Sturridge wasted two clear chances for Liverpool. Gerrard was the Liverpool’s best player on the pitch. He was playing bit deeper in the second half but with his accurate long passes he made it easy for the attackers.Liverpool looked completely a different team from first half with three strikers at front.Henderson came on for Allen after 80 mins and didn’t have much to do. Agger and Skrtel looked bit shaky in the first half .Johnson ,who was playing  as a left back ,had a good game. The 19 old defender,Wisdom proved that he could play against big teams.
