Review : QPR vs Manchester United

Updated: February 24, 2013

The match between the table-toppers and the table-sweepers was never a real contest . From minute one , Manchester United dominated the game or better said , QPR gave it away . They never seemed to be getting it together . The first half saw a number of shots from the QPR players aimed at all parts of the stadium . De Gea was totally untroubled throughout the first half . United , on the other hand though , took their chances well . An RVP low-angled shot was well-parried over by Julio Cesar , only to be taken on just outside the box and hit like a rocket into the top left-corner by Rafael . The first-time strike was totally unanticipated by Cesar who could do nothing but watch it thump into the net . Samba could have done better though with his jump to head the ball away or maybe he was just lucky not to have the ball break his neck . On the other end , Rafael denied QPR a goal just minutes later with his goal-line clearance from a corner headed-in . Then there was a super-cross from Rafael right on to RVP’s left foot whose first-time volley was well saved by Cesar . Great reactions there from the Brazilian No.1 . Just before half-time , a limping RVP was replaced by Welbeck . It was probably a precautionary measure taken by SAF considering the importance of Madrid match at Old Trafford .

The second half did not bring much change in QPR’s gameplay . Adel Tarrabt was still blasting all his shots wide . M’bia was fouling everybody in sight . And the referee must have forgotten the rule for hand-balls as not a single foul was given for hand-balls even though there were many . Evra got kung fu kicked in his face and still managed to get up and move on without a frown . Soon after , Chicharito was subbed off for Wayne Rooney returning from a sinus problem . Nani and Young were giving in some good crosses . And United still got some good chances in the box . Welbeck and Rooney both got a couple of good chances in the box which were both well-defended by QPR and also well ruined by United .Valencia was subbed in for Young . Soon later , Nani gave an amazing pass-in to Giggs who coolly slotted in the 2nd goal for United . And the game ended that way .

De Gea was troubled very little the whole 90 min with the Remy shot block being his only highlight . Vidic and Ferdinand were very well co-ordinated at the center of the United defense . A very good performance overall by the United players . And I am sure Harry Redknapp must have been very disappointed with his team’s performance . It’s going to be tough for QPR to get off relegation this season with performances like that .

Scoreline : United 2 – 0 QPR

Rafael 23′

Giggs 80′

My MOTM : Rafael

Rafael put in a brilliant performance with a fantastic goal , a fabulous goal-line clearance and strong performances both in defense and on the attack . He’s been consistent this season for United . At the tender age of 22 , he still has places to go . More performances like this would surely get him a spot in the Brazilian national team soon . He certainly has the potential to mature into one of the best full-backs ever .
