The Suprise Package : West Bromwich Albion

Updated: December 5, 2012

I am the one who thought before the season’s start , that West Brom is a very good contender for relegation spot , but Steve Clarke’s men have proved me completely wrong as they are in the champions league spot nearing half way through the season . I list out some of the reasons for their success this season .

Gaffer :

The West Brom’s boss Steve Clarke deserves so much credit , for their performance this season . The experience under two great managers Jose Mourinho and Kenny Dalglish has helped him immensely in his managerial career . He uses this experience well and add his own flavor to their style . They play from the back  and they are trying to form a unique style of their own .

Home form :

They are making the most of their home ground and supporters , with an astonishing 6 win under their belt in their home games .Also they have reacted well to their losses and had comeback strongly .

Depth :

Looking at the squad having everybody fit, they look like a descent outfit .But I don’t think they have the depth in the squad to play in Europe and well as complete in Premier league and domestic competitions . The key players such as Odemwingie, Shane Long (5 goals), Romelu Lukaku (5 goals), Fortune and Foster  were all fit up to this point which has contributed to the good run of baggies .

Transfers :

Every manager in the premier league would now be thinking , why they did not have the idea of signing Lukaku , thee  addition of him brought in a depth to their attack. But after his departure Steve Clarke has to find ways to replace the loss .Unfortunately for steve the club does not have the financial capability to sign big players or to carry a huge squad .

Final Verdict :

The baggies are a beacon to other clubs , they have proved to other clubs u can win when u play effective football without having to spend billions on players . I don’t think that they can be in the top four until the end of the season , but an European spot will be an remarkable achievement for the first reign of Steve Clarke’s men .
